One-to-one session

Mar 1st 2009

A one-to-one session is also a great way to learn how to massage your baby.  This involves me coming to your home to spend a couple of hours with you and your baby at a time thats convenient to you.  This may suit you better than the classes as it allows us to work around your routine and takes away the stress of getting organised to leave the house!  A one-to-one is also a good option if the next available class isn’t for a few weeks and you are desperate for help with things like colic or trapped wind.

A one-to-one session costs £35.  Full notes will be left with you to remind you of the strokes.  Don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like further details or would like to book a session.

Introduction to baby massage techniques

Jan 7th 2009

Techniques are based on a combination of Swedish massage, Indian massage, reflexology and yoga. Prior to becoming a baby massage instructor I trained in Swedish body massage, Indian head massage and reflexology. Baby massage has a wonderful holisitic approach to all these areas.

A routine of strokes across the stomach work wonders at relieving the pain caused by colic and trapped wind. Both of my sons suffered terribly with trapped wind and I found that the only way to relieve their agony (and my sleepless nights!) was with baby massage. It is important to always work in the clockwise direction of the intestines to help the natural flow.

Baby massage can even help to relieve blocked noses. A simple massage down the bridge of the nose towards the cheek bones can help drain the stuffy congestion made worse by not being able to blow their noses yet. Another hot tip is to rub down the outside of the thumb or the big toe. This is a reflexology stroke based on the principle that this area of the hand or foot represents the sinuses. If you are sceptical, try it on yourself and you will feel your sinuses draining clear!

Massage for premature babies

Jan 6th 2009

I have had the privilege to work with premature babies and their parents since starting baby massage. Nurturing touch is so important for all babies, especially premature babies who may have spent much of their young life in hospital. Massage allows parents to bond with their babies through touch and the earlier massage is started the better.
